Las Vegas and Henderson is a hot spot for baseball. Of the 23 current players in the MLB from Nevada, 19 of them are from Las Vegas/Henderson.
Bryce Harper, Kris Bryant, Bary Zito, Tyler Anderson, Joey Gallo, Erick Fedde, Garrett Hampson, Ryne Nelson, Tommy Pham and Cade Povich are some of the top MLB players from Nevada.
In 1984 a small group of businessmen and community leaders had a goal in mind to promote baseball in Nevada. The Nevada Baseball Club was formed and after a contest was had they decided on the Griffons as their name. The General Manager set out on a mission to recruit players from all over included Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Arkansas, Minnesota, South Dakota, Texas, Colorado, Indiana, California, Missouri and Oregon to form their first team. This is a real early example of recruiting.
